Top Three Destination UK Wedding Tips

Are you living overseas but getting married in the UK? Maybe you’re returning home to be amongst friends and family for your special day?
Planning a wedding can be time consuming, stressful and demanding at the best times, but when you add in several thousands of miles distance between you and your venue, the planning process is even harder.
I have been so fortunate to help couples living overseas plan their weddings here in the UK and one thing I can tell you is, that with the right approach and strategy, the whole process should be as smooth and stress free as anything. To help you on your planning journey I have my top three tips for couples living overseas and planning their Destination UK Wedding.
1. Get organised about what you can do from abroad
Whether you live in the UK or overseas, your planning strategy will start out the same. First things first, decide your budget and guest list and this will help you narrow down your searches. Also, decide geographically where you want to host your wedding. It may be that you’re heading ‘home’ or to the place you first met.
After that, the internet is your friend and so much research of venues and suppliers can be done online. There is also a wealth of check-lists available on the internet to download and utilise (check ours out too).
Email potential venues and suppliers for quotes and be sure to tell them you are living overseas so all communication will be via email or Skype or through a delegated family member or friend.
Delegation is key. Organise yourself an awesome team of trusted family members or friends that know you really well and you can trust to visit venues and suppliers. Make a list of questions to ask and that they know exactly what you do and don’t want and also ask them to take photos and videos too. Why not get them to Facetime you as they visit people or places so you really feel a part of the whole adventure.
I would also suggest keeping suppliers to a minimum so you can keep better control of things from afar. For example, your caterers may be able to supply your wedding cake as well, or your florist could do all your venue styling or hire a wedding planner or coordinator who also does event design and floristry.
3. Ask the Experts for the rest
Once you’ve done as much as you can and delegated a portion of the visits and planning to friends and family, don’t try and ‘go it alone’ for the rest. Find yourself a good wedding planner that will help you plan and coordinate as much or as little as you need help with. It may be that your venue’s in-house coordinator will help you with everything or search for an independent planner. Remember when choosing someone, compatibility is key and you must ‘connect’ with them so they totally understand you, your needs and desires and your constrictions of living overseas.

Our Chateau caters for weddings and we have a church next to the chateau where you can walk from the church to the reception area. We sleep 20 and very near chateaus also we are in contact with can take up to another 30 within 5km.
