It’s always important to work with the best suppliers you can for your wedding and most of all, compatibility is key.

But where do you find fabulous businesses? For me, I put a lot of weight on recommendation. If someone I trust, love and respect trusts a business enough to recommend them then I think this means a lot.

I’m always very careful of the businesses I recommend to people too and I have to have worked with them, seen them in action and seen them deliver top quality customer service and value to my clients.

With that in mind, here are five top Yorkshire wedding businesses.

Photography by Kathryn Widdowson

Not only are Kathryn’s photos amazing, she is one of the most delightful people I know and is fabulous to not only work with, but her calming and relaxed nature with couples is truly outstanding and this trust and rapport she builds is what makes her photos all the more special.

The Volkswagen Wedding Co

Herman the photobooth is my favourite! He’s quirky, fun and never fails to grab attention at weddings and events. The service and value that the Volkswagen Wedding Co. offers is also second to none. Efficient, professional and always with a smile and fun; that’s why we love them.

Carly & The Kicks

Every party needs entertainment and Carly Wood and her fabulous band are absolutely superb. Whether it’s an acoustic set or the full band, this girl knows how to get your party going and what’s more, honestly and truly one of the loveliest and most fun people I’ve ever met.

The Arches @ Dean Clough

Yes, no shame, I’m totally biased as we at Mode for… are the exclusive wedding co-ordinators (don’t worry, I’m not shameless enough to put Mode for… in my top 5 wedding businesses, but you know we are outright the best for relaxed, calm, mindful, professional, happy and fun wedding planning and co-ordination, don’t you?!) but this venue is the absolute bee’s knees. Industrial, perfect, stunning and as relaxed as they come with amazing catering from Eat Me – Drink Me and a great team of staff to make your wedding truly memorable.

Eat Me – Drink Me

Because now we’ve got the venue, music, photographer and fun we need some amazing food. Eat Me – Drink Me are superb event caterers wherever your wedding is being held and whether it’s a tipi in a field, a barn, industrial venue or country house they have the perfect menu, stunning food and excellent team of staff to deliver your perfect wedding food. Their passion is catering for very important dates, and your wedding is truly important to them.

So, there’s my quick round up of why these five make it into the top five. Go and check them out.

Are you living overseas but getting married in the UK? Maybe you’re returning home to be amongst friends and family for your special day?

Planning a wedding can be time consuming, stressful and demanding at the best times, but when you add in several thousands of miles distance between you and your venue, the planning process is even harder.

I have been so fortunate to help couples living overseas plan their weddings here in the UK and one thing I can tell you is, that with the right approach and strategy, the whole process should be as smooth and stress free as anything. Check out this gorgeous wedding of Lisa and Alan who married at The Arches @ Dean Clough in Halifax but actually live in Singapore. (Check out their wedding album HERE).

To help you on your planning journey I have my top three tips for couples living overseas and planning their Destination UK Wedding.

1. Get organised about what you can do from abroad

Whether you live in the UK or overseas, your planning strategy will start out the same. First things first, decide your budget and guest list and this will help you narrow down your searches. Also, decide geographically where you want to host your wedding. It may be that you’re heading ‘home’ or to the place you first met.

After that, the internet is your friend and so much research of venues and suppliers can be done online. There is also a wealth of check-lists available on the internet to download and utilise (check ours out too).

Email potential venues and suppliers for quotes and be sure to tell them you are living overseas so all communication will be via email or Skype or through a delegated family member or friend.

2. Delegate

Delegation is key. Organise yourself an awesome team of trusted family members or friends that know you really well and you can trust to visit venues and suppliers. Make a list of questions to ask and that they know exactly what you do and don’t want and also ask them to take photos and videos too. Why not get them to Facetime you as they visit people or places so you really feel a part of the whole adventure.

I would also suggest keeping suppliers to a minimum so you can keep better control of things from afar. For example, your caterers may be able to supply your wedding cake as well, or your florist could do all your venue styling or hire a wedding planner or coordinator who also does event design and floristry.

3. Ask the Experts for the rest

Once you’ve done as much as you can and delegated a portion of the visits and planning to friends and family, don’t try and ‘go it alone’ for the rest. Find yourself a good wedding planner that will help you plan and coordinate as much or as little as you need help with. It may be that your venue’s in-house coordinator will help you with everything or search for an independent planner. Remember when choosing someone, compatibility is key and you must ‘connect’ with them so they totally understand you, your needs and desires and your constrictions of living overseas.

If you follow these three top tips it will set you on a good and organised path to organising your Destination UK Wedding and as always, if you want any more hints, advice or inspiration just drop me a message or join my stress-free wedding planning group at www.facebook.com/groups/theweddingfixer
